In 2011 Kaito Yamato planned for a new community space on Meguro-dori, next to Claska. He planned for something rarely seen in Japan, certainly not in the city: a space with a pool for pool skating. With help from old friends, collaboration with Koji Oba of Wooden Toy and the support of local creative minds, they created “SON OF THE CHEESE” with their own hands.
A trailer house was put there as a living space and they surrounded the place with fencing just like an American place would be; the special atmosphere leaves an impression on everyone who visits—a place visited by people above genres, a place like you can’t find elsewhere in Japan: a unique community space was born.
Presently, the SON OF THE CHEESE community space is also used as a location-studio for fashion magazine shoots and commercial spots; an apparel brand and a sandwich stand inspired by the space are also both up and running.
